  • 3 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups granny smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 5 tbsp granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 1 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time along with vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined. Fold in diced apples gently.
  5. For the cinnamon sugar coating, mix granulated sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg in a small bowl.
  6. Scoop dough into balls and roll each in the cinnamon sugar mixture before placing on baking sheets.
  7. Bake for about 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire racks.
