  • 1 kg potatoes (Ratte, Monalisa, or Charlotte)
  • 200 ml crème fraîche
  • 100 ml milk
  • 20 g butter
  • 150 g grated cheese (Comté, emmental, or gruyère)
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Fresh thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes uniformly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in butter until softened.
  4. Whisk together crème fraîche, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg in another bowl; add the sautéed onion and garlic.
  5. Layer half of the potato slices in a baking dish; pour half of the creamy mixture over them and sprinkle with cheese. Repeat layers.
  6. Place thyme and bay leaf on top of the last layer.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes; remove foil for the last 15 minutes to brown.
