Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the tops off each onion and hollow them out, leaving about ½ inch at the bottom.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Place hollowed onions cut-side down and cook until they start to brown.
  3. Add remaining olive oil to the skillet, then sauté chopped onion pieces until caramelized. Mix in ground beef, seasonings, and half of the cheese; cook until browned.
  4. Stuff each onion with the beef mixture and top with remaining cheese.
  5. Place upright in an oven-safe dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
