Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 small oranges or tangelos (about 1820 slices)
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. Slice the oranges into ¼-inch rounds using a sharp knife or mandoline for uniform thickness.
  2. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves and the syrup begins to boil.
  3. Reduce heat to a gentle simmer and add the orange slices in a single layer. Simmer for 45–60 minutes, turning occasionally until the peels become translucent.
  4. Using tongs, remove each slice from the syrup and place them on a wire rack to dry uncovered at room temperature for 24–48 hours until they are tacky but set.
  5. Optional: For added sweetness, roll dried slices in sugar or dip them in melted chocolate before drying.
