  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chili paste
  • For garnish: chopped green onions and sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry the beef short ribs.
  2. Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, chili paste (if using), and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Marinate the short ribs in the mixture for at least 2 hours (ideally overnight) in a resealable bag or bowl.
  4. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  5. Sear the marinated ribs in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned on all sides.
  6. Transfer the seared ribs to a roasting pan and pour any remaining marinade over them.
  7. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and roast for 3-4 hours or until fork-tender.
  8. Remove foil in the last 30 minutes to allow caramelization.
